Kirkistown to stage Martin Donnelly Trophy meeting

The 500 MRCI stage the Martin Donnelly Trophy for 1600cc cars on Saturday 6 October, one of four major Formula Ford events to be held in these islands and with the leading drivers in this class in action on home tarmac it promises to be the race meeting of the 2012 season at the County Down circuit.
There is a full support programme which includes Ireland‘s fastest racing cars, Formula Libre. The Martin Donnelly Trophy will be fought out over two heats and a final and the top Irish drivers will be in action to capture for them what is the big prize.
Noel Robinson became the first driver ever to win the MD Trophy on two occasions and the multi talented who splits his time between football and motor racing has entered with one aim in mind to be the first to capture the MD Trophy for a third time.
However a number of drivers will be out to take the trophy; the newly crowned Northern Ireland Formula Ford Champion Ivor McCullough a previous winner of the MD Trophy, Jonny McMullan and Adrian Pollock to name but a few.
The other previous winners, Neville Smyth, Patrick McKenna and Peter Dempsey, the latter two currently race in the USA.
In addition to the Formula Libre cars, the remaining racing action will be provided by Formula Sheanes, Roadsports, Ford Fiestas, Historics, Saloons and GTs. In total a 10 race programme.
Qualifying gets under way at 9.30am and there will be two Formula Ford heats before the lunch break, heat one at 12.15pm.
The race programme will commence at 1.30pm.
