Car racing is set to return to Bishopscourt race circuit County Down and join motorcycling and rallying, after an absence of 44 years.
The race meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday May12/13 and will be promoted by Leinster Motor Club who incidentally organised the last car racing event held at the track in 1968. The race meeting will feature all the main classes currently racing in Ireland and other classes, like those traditionally run at nearby Kirkistown race circuit are likely to be added to the bill.

This announcement comes after a raft of government-funded upgrades over the last 12 months (facilitated by 2 and 4 wheels) which has resulted in the circuit being completely resurfaced, giving organizing clubs 3 alternative layouts ranging from 1.5 miles to 2.1 miles per lap and also certified to hold MSA sanctioned kart meetings.
Gary Manning a former Motorsport Ireland Karting committee Chairman coordinated the negotiations between the various governing bodies say's " This is a positive move for Irish motor racing and if you include the long and the short versions of Mondello Park and Kirkistown we now have four permanent tracks in the country. I facilitated the deal purely for the good of Irish racing and also allows for Sunday racing which is unusual in Northern Ireland.”
The race meeting in May will be on the National track measuring 1.85 miles with a full announcement being made next month by LMC and Bishopscourt giving details of exactly which classes and championships will use the new venue.
