Former employees to help reborn MG bring old days to life

MG Motor UK is helping former Longbridge workers to revisit the past but the firm says that it needs help to bring the old days back to life.
The company is opening its Sales Centre to ex-employees of all the former Longbridge-based car companies on 30th November. Photographs of the old factory will be on display along with a Memory Board where old colleagues can post messages and there will be talks on various periods of the site’s long history.

Although MG Motor has put together an historic record of images, it says that it needs help to find more photographs and memorabilia and is hoping former employees can help fill the gap.
Louise Lane, MG Motor UK‘s HR Manager, said: “We would particularly like to include photographs with people in them as they really stir memories and we think there will be lots of people out there with old photo albums who could help. It would be great to see former colleagues getting together to chat over old times and we‘ve already had a great response to the idea. The Longbridge site has one of the longest histories of car building in the UK and the factory is an iconic Birmingham landmark.”
The reunion day will run from 10.00am to 8.00pm and entrance to the Sales Centre, in Lowhill Lane, Longbridge, is free. As well as the memorabilia, visitors will be able to see and book test drives in the new generation of MGs. Both the MG6 GT fastback and the MG6 Magnette sports saloon will be on view along with the very last TF to come off the assembly line at MG Birmingham.
Both MG6 models were designed and the engineering development work was carried out at the MG Birmingham site where final assembly also takes place.
