BMW has revealed images of the new M6 Coupé and M6 Convertible models. These will be the flagships of the new 6 Series range and both will be powered by a twin-turbo fed V8 engine that produces 560bhp.

Both cars will have close to 50:50 weight distribution and BMW says that a key factor in the design was optimised aerodynamics. They will also integrate EfficientDynamics technology which promises better efficiency as well as increased power.
Performance figures are not far off the standard of many supercars: the coupé will reach 62 from rest in just 4.2 seconds, whilst the soft-top is only a ten of a second slower. Fuel consumption for the coupé and convertible is 28.5mpg and 27.4 mpg respectively.

BMW says that the new grand tourers: "Represent the most recent expression of the BMW M philosophy" and on the new car's performance: "The new M6 is both cleaner and 30 per cent more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, despite being significantly faster and more powerful."

The 6 Series range already has what BMW refers to as a driver-focused cabin - the dash and control ergonomics are all orientated towards the driver but that these variants will have a cabin that is bespoke to the M cars.
